What Inspires Me

Tuesday, November 01, 2005

Having worked in a cubicle farm for more years than I care to admit, I have become increasingly annoyed at the inspirational poster that have become ubiquitous in this environment. You know the ones... An eagle flying by a mountain peak with a pithy saying such as "Dare to Soar". (Click here for an example.) I have come to believe that these posters rarely inspire, and often they become the target of derision.

I decided to take this worn out format, and try to capture things that truly inspire me. This webpage lists some examples.

The picture on this posting was my first experiment with this "art". That is my youngest son on a tire swing when he was two years old. This is not my favorite - I am not crazy about the picture or the saying -- but this is where it all got started.

I believe that this picture was taken on the first day that I had my digital camera. It was a Father's day gift, and I got it while I was happily married. I thought it was the most thoughtful gift that she ever gave me, and I used it right away and often.

The camera now sits at the bottom of Lake Anne. Getting rid of the camera was an important step to try to exorcise some memories of the past. Not the only step, but an important one...

I now have another camera that I like much better. Perhaps another step in moving on?
